Rue Salomon-de-Caus

Solly Hôtel stands at 4 rue Salomon-de-Caus, beside the square Émile-Chautemps, in the Arts-et-Métiers quarter of the 3rd arrondissement. Across the street is the Gaîté-Lyrique theatre. The hotel takes its name from Salomon de Caus, whom it calls a great traveller and architect, and who also gave his name to the street.

Atout France, the agency that awards official hotel stars in France, classified Solly four stars on 14 January 2022. The decision has not been extended, and a classification lasts five years: it runs out in January 2027 unless it is renewed. OpenStreetMap still showed three stars when the hotel was checked, a reminder that only the official register counts. The hotel belongs to Younight Hospitality.

Glass roof, kitchen and views

The shared space is an open kitchen under an Art Nouveau glass roof of the period, in cloisonné glass. It replaces a restaurant: guests can snack there, breakfast is a buffet, and the bar serves throughout the day and evening.

Rooms list air conditioning, and one is accessible to wheelchair users. The view is the selling point of several categories: “Cosy Eiffel Tower view” rooms, balconies over the Gaîté-Lyrique and the roofs of Paris, and a “Comfort with terrace” category, where the terrace is private. The suite sleeps up to four, but there are no family or communicating rooms. The website says nothing about pets or parking. Solly holds the Clef Verte, an eco-label for tourism.

Transport and the neighbours

Three stations lie within five minutes of rue Salomon-de-Caus: Réaumur – Sébastopol is two minutes away, Strasbourg – Saint-Denis three, Arts et Métiers five, which puts lines 3, 4, 8, 9 and 11 within a short walk. The Musée des Arts et Métiers is about four minutes away on foot; the Marché des Enfants-Rouges about twelve.

The Hôtel Marais Grands Boulevards, another four-star, is two minutes away on boulevard de Sébastopol, with a gym, family rooms and pets accepted. The Hôtel National des Arts et Métiers, four minutes south, adds a restaurant, a gym and a seasonal rooftop, with 64 rooms. Une Autre Chambre, about six minutes away, is a much smaller four-star of 17 rooms.
