28 place des Vosges, 75003 Paris · 56 rooms
The only hotel of the 3rd with an address on the place des Vosges, at no. 28 on the north side. It lists eleven facilities — spa, gym, restaurant Anne with one MICHELIN star, bar, garden terrace and a free private car park with valet, according to the hotel.
The 3rd arrondissement has 32 hotels in our database, too many to describe usefully on one page, and we did not want a list made only of four- and five-star hotels. So the rule is mechanical. We split the arrondissement into its four sectors — Haut-Marais, Arts-et-Métiers, Archives and the north side of the place des Vosges — and, in each sector, kept, for every official category present (five, four, three, two and one star), the hotel whose own website lists the most facilities. Facilities are the ones shown on each card: restaurant, bar, spa, pool, gym, terrace, air conditioning, family and accessible rooms, pets, parking.
When two hotels tie, the one closer to its metro station wins; when they also tie on that, both are kept, which is why the Haut-Marais has two four-star entries. The Hôtel du Haut Marais, which has no official classification, is left out. Thirteen hotels qualify, from one star to five, listed sector by sector from north-east to south. A count of facilities measures scope, not quality: Une Autre Chambre or Maison Saintonge, with fewer services listed, are not lesser hotels, and they appear in our four-star list.
The four sectors, with their metro lines
Haut-Marais. Around the rue de Bretagne, the Marché des Enfants-Rouges and the Carreau du Temple. Filles du Calvaire and Saint-Sébastien–Froissart (line 8) serve the east, Temple (line 3) the west. Only part of it belongs to the international tourist zone created in 2015: the eastern streets and those running from rue de Poitou to rue de Bretagne.
Arts-et-Métiers. The north-west, between the boulevard de Sébastopol and rue du Temple, with eighteen hotels — more than half of the arrondissement’s total. Five lines stop within 400 metres of the Musée des Arts et Métiers; the Gaîté Lyrique hosts the Centre Pompidou’s Studio 13/16 from 10 October 2026 to 20 March 2027.
Archives. The museums quarter: the Hôtel de Soubise, the hôtel Salé and its Musée Picasso, the musée de la Chasse et de la Nature. Almost all of it is in the tourist zone, so shops on rue des Francs-Bourgeois — the even numbers are in the 3rd — may open on Sundays.
Place des Vosges, north side. Only the north side of the square belongs to the 3rd; the rest is in the 4th, covered by our list of hotels in the 4th arrondissement.
Since 2020 the 1st to 4th arrondissements have formed a single sector, Paris Centre, whose town hall is in the old 3rd-arrondissement mairie at 2 rue Eugène-Spuller, opposite the square du Temple.
Taxes, cars and Sundays
The Paris tourist tax depends on the official category and is added to the bill per adult per night: in 2026 it is €11.70 in a five-star hotel, €8.45 in a four-star, €5.53 in a three-star, €3.25 in a two-star and €2.60 in a one-star. Under-18s are exempt.
The whole arrondissement lies in the limited-traffic zone in force since 5 November 2024: you may drive to your hotel or take a taxi, but not cross the area. Only Le Pavillon de la Reine announces its own car park; several others have arrangements with public car parks — La Chambre du Marais with the Interparking at 132 rue du Temple, Boudoir des Muses a discount at the Temple car park.
For a lower budget in the same arrondissement, six hotels sit in our € band; the cheap hotels of Le Marais compare them with the 4th. Hotels close to the hôtel Salé are listed by distance in hotels near the Picasso museum.
Frequently asked questions
Is the 3rd arrondissement a good place to stay?
For walking and museums, yes — the Picasso, Carnavalet and Arts et Métiers museums, the National Archives and the Marché des Enfants-Rouges are all in it, and lines 3, 4, 5, 8, 9 and 11 serve its edges. Two caveats from our data — the Arts-et-Métiers area is outside the international tourist zones, so Sunday shopping is not guaranteed there, and ten of its 32 hotels do not mention air conditioning.
Is there a single best hotel in the 3rd arrondissement of Paris?
We do not rate hotels. Four are classified five stars — Le Pavillon de la Reine, Maison Proust, Les Bains and Experimental Marais — and the first three hold one MICHELIN Key. Le Pavillon de la Reine lists the most facilities of all 32 hotels in the arrondissement.
What is the 3rd arrondissement of Paris known for?
The northern half of the Marais — mansions such as the hôtel Salé (Musée Picasso) and the Hôtel de Soubise (National Archives), the covered market created in 1615, the Carreau du Temple, the square du Temple laid out in 1857, and art galleries, many of them in the Sainte-Avoie quarter.
How many hotels are there in the 3rd arrondissement?
Our database counts 32 open hotels — four five-star, thirteen four-star, nine three-star, four two-star, one one-star and one unclassified — for about 1,100 rooms in total.
Which arrondissement is best for tourists?
We cover only the 3rd and 4th. From the rue de Bretagne, in the middle of the 3rd, the IDFM timetables give 22 to 25 minutes to the Louvre, 21 to 23 to Notre-Dame and 38 to 40 to the Eiffel Tower on a weekday morning.
