Closed until 2030: what has changed

The Centre Pompidou, at the place Georges-Pompidou in the 4th arrondissement, is closed for works until 2030. The building shut to the public on 22 September 2025; the works began in 2026. The museum announces a reopening in 2030, without a precise date. Anything you read that gives opening hours or ticket prices for Beaubourg in 2026 is out of date.

This matters for a stay in Le Marais: the building stands on the edge of the quarter, in the 4th arrondissement, and many visitors still plan a day around it. What remains on site is limited to the Ircam and to occasional events on the Piazza.

Where the Centre Pompidou has gone

The museum has moved its activity elsewhere, and each move is a reason to leave Beaubourg for another part of the city.

  • Exhibitions. The “Constellation” programme places shows in other institutions; the three Paris ones of autumn 2026 are listed in the facts below.
  • The public library. The Bpi is open in the Lumière building, in the 12th arrondissement, since 25 August 2025.
  • Cinema. Screenings are at the mk2 bibliothèque, near the BnF entrance, under the name “mk2 bibliothèque x Centre Pompidou”.
  • Teenagers. The “Studio 13/16” is hosted at the Gaîté Lyrique, in the 3rd arrondissement, from 10 October 2026 to 20 March 2027. The Gaîté Lyrique is open Tuesday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., at weekends from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., and closed on Mondays.
  • A new site. An outpost is planned in Massy, in Essonne, between 2026 and 2030, according to Wikipedia.

What to do around Beaubourg meanwhile

The quarter around the building is still one of the busiest in Le Marais. The Hôtel de Ville stands to the south, with its own hotels and walking times, and the Marais museums lie a few minutes to the east: the Picasso Museum and the Carnavalet Museum are open in 2026. Our guide to Le Marais places the Hôtel de Ville and Beaubourg sector among the eight sub-quarters we use.

The building, seen from outside

While the interior is shut, the exterior is the part that can still be read. Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers won the 1971 competition among 681 entries, and their design puts the services on the outside: the pipes are colour-coded, blue for air, green for water, yellow for electricity and red for circulation. According to Wikipedia, the building is 166 m long, 45 m wide and 42 m high, with eight public levels of 7,500 m² each. It was inaugurated on 31 January 1977, and the works of 2025–2030 are estimated at about €200 million.

The façade is itself part of the works, according to the centre: asbestos removal, corrosion treatment and energy renovation. Expect hoardings rather than the finished view. The Piazza in front of the building and the Stravinsky Fountain, kinetic sculptures by Jean Tinguely and Niki de Saint Phalle on the neighbouring square, are the parts of the site that remain in the public space.

What the museum holds

The Musée national d’art moderne holds 113,675 works by 6,000 artists, according to the January 2019 figure given by Wikipedia. The Atelier Brancusi, a 600 m² reconstruction of the sculptor’s studio, is among the places associated with the centre, and the Ircam, the music research institute, is the part that stays on site. For the programme, the “Constellation” exhibitions listed on this page are how its programme reaches Paris this autumn.

None is offered here. Two guided-tour pages for the Centre Pompidou remain in GetYourGuide’s public sitemap, but the building is closed and these offers are very probably out of date, so we do not recommend them.
