Hôtel Le Presbytère, 78 rue de la Verrerie: three stars, 11 rooms in a listed former presbytery, a suite for five, Hôtel de Ville metro. Checked October 2026.
A listed presbytery against Saint-Merri
The Hôtel Le Presbytère is at no. 78 rue de la Verrerie, in the 4th arrondissement, built against the church of Saint-Merri, between the Hôtel de Ville and the Centre Pompidou.
The building was the church’s presbytery. It has been listed as a historic monument since 12 April 1974, and the national heritage database dates its construction to the first half of the 18th century; Wikipedia credits the architect Jean-François Blondel with a remodelling in 1731. A 2010 archive of the website shows the hotel trading under the name Saint-Merry, and it belongs to Les Hôtels Saint-Louis, a Paris collection.
Atout France, the national agency that awards official hotel stars, classified it three stars on 4 September 2023, for 11 rooms. Of the seven three-stars in our Hôtel de Ville sub-district, it has the fewest rooms.
Gothic rooms, and the limits of a listed building
Rooms have exposed beams and stone walls, with what the hotel calls flamboyant Gothic details, and the Suite Prestige keeps old Gothic panelling. Under the roof, the Suite Prestige Top Floor has two bedrooms and sleeps up to five, which the hotel offers to families. Pets are accepted for a supplement.
A protected building comes with constraints. There is no lift, and the hotel cannot receive guests with reduced mobility. Air conditioning is not mentioned, and breakfast is the only meal served.
Between Beaubourg and the Hôtel de Ville
The Centre Pompidou is three minutes away, but closed until its reopening, announced for 2030. The BHV Marais department store, five minutes away, stays open through a heavy restructuring (situation checked on 2 October 2026), and the mahJ is seven minutes away. Hôtel de Ville station (lines 1 and 11) is three minutes on foot, and Châtelet, served by lines 1, 4, 7, 11 and 14, four.
The nearest three-star, the Hôtel Andrea on rue Saint-Bon, a minute away, is larger, with 32 rooms, air conditioning and a top-floor triple looking towards the Centre Pompidou, Notre-Dame and the Hôtel de Ville. The Hôtel Beaubourg, four minutes away, has 28 rooms in two buildings and a junior suite with its own terrace. For a guest house rather than a hotel, 1er Étage Marais is six minutes away, and Le Presbytère’s sister in the same collection, the Hôtel Saint-Louis en l’Isle, is on the Île Saint-Louis.
