Metro 7 7 Pont Marie · 3 min walk
Metro 7 7 Sully-Morland · 6 min walk
54 rue Saint-Louis-en-l'Île, 75004 Paris · 30 rooms
The limit of our rule at 30 rooms, in a court built in 1634 and registered as a monument on 23 April 1987. The architect Guy Prache created the hotel in 1987, with a three-hundred-year-old timber frame above the atrium, the hotel says. Hammam, sauna and gym in vaulted cellars, for a fee. Pont Marie (line 7) is three minutes away, on the Île Saint-Louis.
A boutique hotel has no official definition, so we wrote one that can be checked. A hotel is kept if it has 30 rooms or fewer in the Atout France register and, in addition, either a designer, decorator or architect named by the hotel, or a building registered or listed as a historic monument in the Mérimée database. Thirteen of the 70 hotels in our database pass both.
The cards run from the smallest to the largest: eight rooms for Dupond-Smith, 30 for Hôtel du Jeu de Paume. For equal sizes the higher official category comes first, and then alphabetical order. The order says nothing about quality, and the hotels do not pay to appear.
What the rule leaves out
Some small hotels have real appeal without passing the test. Hôtel Caron de Beaumarchais, with 19 rooms, has an eighteenth-century decor but no named designer, and its building is not protected. Hôtel des Deux Îles has 17 rooms, but names Vincent Darré for a single room only. Hôtel Emile describes itself as a boutique design hotel without naming a designer. They are in the 4th arrondissement list.
Haut-Marais, 3rd arrondissement. Petit Moulin, Maison Proust and Boudoir des Muses, around the rue de Bretagne, served by lines 3 and 8.
Place des Vosges and the Rosiers. Cour des Vosges, Dupond-Smith and 9Confidentiel. Chemin Vert (line 8) is four minutes from Cour des Vosges; the Rosiers hotels are six or seven minutes from Saint-Paul, Pont Marie or Hôtel de Ville.
Saint-Paul. Le Temple de Jeanne and JoBo, each one minute from Saint-Paul, and Goralska, on the Arsenal basin.
Hôtel de Ville. Le Presbytère, Bourg Tibourg and Vieux Marais.
Prices are not published here; we show a price band on each card, estimated from the official category. For the cheapest hotels, see cheap hotels in Le Marais, and for the whole district, the home page.
Frequently asked questions
Which boutique hotels in the Marais district of Paris stand out?
We do not rank hotels. The thirteen on this page share two checkable features: 30 rooms or fewer in the official figures, and a designer or architect named by the hotel or a building protected as a historic monument. Within that rule, the table at the top matches each hotel to a need.
What makes a hotel a boutique hotel here?
Three tests. It has 30 rooms or fewer, according to Atout France. It has a named designer, decorator or architect, or occupies a building registered or listed as a historic monument. And it is open and classified in our database. A hotel that only calls itself boutique does not qualify.
Which boutique hotels have a pool or a spa?
Maison Proust has a ten-metre pool and a hammam; Boudoir des Muses has two private spas, one with a pool, rented by the session; Hôtel du Jeu de Paume has a hammam, sauna and gym in its cellars, for a charge. Hôtel du Petit Moulin sends guests to the spa of Le Pavillon de la Reine.
Is Le Marais a good area to stay in Paris?
Yes for a first visit, with the Louvre 17 minutes away by line 1 from the place des Vosges and Notre-Dame 19, on weekday-morning timetables. Two limits: the Centre Pompidou is shut for works until 2030, and shops outside the tourist zones may be closed on Sunday.
Are boutique hotels in Le Marais accessible to wheelchair users?
Unevenly. Dupond-Smith lists a full-access double room, Petit Moulin says its rooms and services are adapted, and Boudoir des Muses says some rooms are. Le Presbytère has no lift and is not accessible, and Le Temple de Jeanne says the same of its building. Ask the hotel for the room you need.
