A family-run house by the old Temple enclosure

The Hôtel du Vieux Saule occupies no. 6 rue de Picardie, in the north of the 3rd arrondissement — the part of the Marais that Parisians call the Haut-Marais, or Upper Marais. The street skirts the former enclos du Temple, and our records place the hotel near the Carreau du Temple, in the Enfants-Rouges administrative quarter.

It is an independent address. The hotel’s website names no chain or collection. Atout France, the national agency that awards French hotels their official stars, classified it three stars in a decision dated 22 September 2021, for 25 rooms. That category places it in the middle price band of the neighbourhood, which we mark €€; we do not quote room rates, which change by the night.

Rooms for families, and what is not there

The family offer is what sets it apart. Two rooms communicate through a door on the landing and together sleep four, in a category the hotel lists at 27 m²; it adds baby equipment on request. Superior rooms include attic rooms under the roof. Air conditioning appears in the list of room equipment, one room is adapted for guests with reduced mobility, and small dogs are welcome for a supplement.

The facilities stop there. There is no bar and no restaurant. The website mentions a relaxation area, bookable and charged by the hour, without describing it, so we have not counted it as a spa. Drivers are pointed to the public car park at 132 rue du Temple.

Around rue de Picardie

The Marché des Enfants-Rouges, at 39 rue de Bretagne, is about a minute away by our estimate. Created in 1615 at the request of Louis XIII and listed as a historic monument in 1982, it is closed on Mondays and stays open until 9.30 p.m. on Thursdays (hours checked on 2 October 2026). The Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature is six minutes away, the Musée Picasso seven.

Within three minutes’ walk, several hotels sit a category higher: Maison Saintonge, a four-star with 22 rooms two minutes away, and Maison Proust, a five-star with 23 rooms and a pool. In the same three-star bracket, the Hôtel Jacques de Molay on rue des Archives, also two minutes away, has 23 rooms and a fitness room and a sauna on request, but our base lists no family rooms there. On a tighter budget, the two-star Hôtel Américain, on rue Charlot, is four minutes from the door.
