Berthillon ice cream on the Île Saint-Louis
Berthillon ice cream on the Île Saint-Louis: address, hours Wednesday to Sunday, the school-holiday closures, where cones are sold, metro and hotels nearby. Checked October 2026.
The ice-cream house of the island
Berthillon is an ice-cream maker of the Île Saint-Louis, founded in 1954. The shop and tea room are at 29–31 rue Saint-Louis-en-l’Île, the street that holds almost all of the island’s shops; the recipes are made in the workshop behind the shop. The house presents them as pure fruit, with no colouring or additive.

When it is open
The rule to remember is the school calendar. The shop trades from Wednesday to Sunday, and closes on Monday and Tuesday and during school holidays other than Christmas. The official site does not publish the dates of each closure, so we do not state whether it will be shut at All Saints’: the holidays run from 17 October to 2 November 2026, and a call to the shop settles it.
Where else to find it
The shop is not the only place: the official locator lists the cafés and shops of the island that serve Berthillon cones, among them Le Louis IX, Le Bossu, Pom’Cannelle, L’île Flottante, Estérina, Pain d’Epices and Le Flore en l’Île. Use this list rather than third-party sites, several of which copy the addresses wrongly. Our guide to the Île Saint-Louis places the shop on the island.

What the house makes
According to the official site, the house began in 1954 in a small café-hotel on the island, and its method has changed little since. The ice creams are turned out of their moulds each day in the shop, and the portable ones are made in the original stainless-steel moulds. The sorbets are described as pure fruit, made without egg white.
The flavours named on the site include nougat with honey, praline with pine nuts, caramel nougatine, wild strawberry, an extra-bitter cocoa sorbet, passion fruit and mango. Wikipedia counts about 90 flavours in all, with thirty to forty on the menu on any one day; the menu changes, so ask at the counter. Beyond cones and scoops, the house sells tubs, frozen cakes, frozen vacherins, granitas and seasonal desserts.
The shop, the tea room and the second counter
The ice-cream shop is at no. 31 and the tea room at no. 29 of the same street, side by side. The site adds that a second shop opposite opens when the street is busy. A tea-room table and a cone to go are therefore two separate ways to buy the same ice cream; the price of neither is published, so we give none.
A walk around the island
Berthillon is a natural last stop after the Marais. The distances below are straight-line, from the coordinates in our data; walking times use 1.3 times the straight line at 80 metres a minute.
| From Berthillon to | Straight line | On foot |
|---|---|---|
| Shoah Memorial | 349 m | 6 min |
| Village Saint-Paul | 426 m | 7 min |
| Église Saint-Paul-Saint-Louis | 499 m | 8 min |
| Notre-Dame cathedral | 589 m | 10 min |
| Hôtel de Sully | 591 m | 10 min |
| Hôtel de Ville | 606 m | 10 min |
The Shoah Memorial is closed on Saturday, and Berthillon is closed on Monday and Tuesday, so a Wednesday to Friday pairs them. The Village Saint-Paul and the church of Saint-Paul–Saint-Louis, which is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. except during services, are on the way back to the Marais. Notre-Dame cathedral stands on the neighbouring Île de la Cité; its hours are on the cathedral’s official site. The Hôtel de Sully, with its courtyard and garden, closes the loop.
Choosing your time
Because the shop opens Wednesday to Sunday only, a Monday or Tuesday stroll on the island works for the church and the quays, not for the ice cream. In the school holidays the shop may be shut, as set out above; on those days the island’s cafés that serve Berthillon cones, listed on the official locator, may be the only way to taste it.
What to expect at the counter
Our sources do not give a price for a cone or a scoop in the shop, and the official site publishes only the prices of its online shop (tubs and frozen desserts), so the cost of a visit is not something we can state. What the site does say is that ice creams are made on the spot from Wednesday to Sunday, which is why a visit on those days is the one that matches what the house describes.

The distances are straight-line, calculated from coordinates. They are compared in hotels on the Île Saint-Louis.
