A tribute to Beaumarchais

The hotel stands at no. 12 rue Vieille-du-Temple, on the lower stretch of the street between rue de Rivoli and rue du Roi-de-Sicile. Its name and decor honour Caron de Beaumarchais, the author of The Marriage of Figaro, who lived further up the same street: from 1776 he rented the hôtel Amelot de Bisseuil at no. 47, where he wrote the play.

The building itself has no heritage listing that we know of; the 18th century here is a deliberate decor. The salon gathers a piano-forte of 1792, a Louis XV harp, a period statue and a games table. Atout France, the national agency that grants hotel stars, classified the house three stars on 28 February 2022, for nineteen rooms. It is independent, with no group or chain.

Rooms for two

All nineteen rooms are designed for one or two guests; there are no suites, triples or communicating rooms. Six of them, on the rue Vieille-du-Temple side, have a balcony. The hotel is air-conditioned and has a lift.

Breakfast is the only meal. Pets are not accepted, and there is no room adapted for guests in wheelchairs: the hotel offers the lift and help from its staff instead.

Rue Vieille-du-Temple and the Pletzl

Rue des Rosiers, at the centre of the old Jewish quarter, and the Mémorial de la Shoah, free and closed on Saturdays, are both three minutes away. The whole sector lies within the Marais international tourist zone, where shops may open on Sundays; rue des Rosiers itself turns pedestrian that day. LGBT+ bars and restaurants cluster around rue Vieille-du-Temple and rue Sainte-Croix-de-la-Bretonnerie. The BHV department store is four minutes away; the Archives nationales and the Musée Cognacq-Jay are six.

This corner is dense with hotels. Hôtel de Nice, another three-star of 23 rooms, is one minute away on rue de Rivoli and, unlike the Caron de Beaumarchais, has triples and accepts pets. Hôtel Bourg Tibourg, a four-star decorated by Jacques Garcia, is two minutes away.

Frequently asked questions

Hôtel Caron de Beaumarchais review — what is it really like?

The verifiable picture is a nineteen-room house with an 18th-century theme carried down to the instruments in the salon, balconies on six street-side rooms, air conditioning and a lift. Its constraints are strict — two guests per room, no pets, no adapted room. We do not reproduce guest reviews or award scores.

Is it the same hotel as Hôtel Caron Le Marais?

No. Hôtel Caron Le Marais is a different three-star of 18 rooms at 3 rue Caron, near Saint-Paul. Hôtel Caron de Beaumarchais is at 12 rue Vieille-du-Temple.

Is the building historic?

The 18th-century atmosphere is a decor chosen by the hotel. The house Beaumarchais rented on this street, from 1776, was the hôtel Amelot de Bisseuil, at no. 47.

Can three people share a room?

No. The hotel’s FAQ states that rooms take two people at most and that there are neither suites nor communicating rooms.

How much is the tourist tax?

€5.53 per adult per night in 2026, as in every Paris three-star; under-18s pay nothing.
