Falafel in Le Marais, two checked addresses on and near rue des Rosiers
Falafel in Le Marais, Paris — Miznon on rue des Écouffes and Chez Hanna on rue des Rosiers, kosher or not, Saturday closures, Sunday crowds and hotels nearby. Checked October 2026.
Two addresses, one street culture
Falafel in the Marais means the rue des Rosiers, which has been associated with it since 1979. The restaurant L’As du Fallafel, opened that year, says it introduced falafel to France, and it is the street’s best-known name. We cite it as a historic landmark only: we found no official site, so we publish no hours for it and do not recommend it above others.

The two addresses below are the ones that passed our tests: a readable official website, an editorial source, and recent activity. They are a small base, and we describe, not rank, them.
Miznon Marais, 22 rue des Écouffes (4th)
Pita and falafel in the Israeli style, according to the restaurant’s site. Time Out Paris has an entry edited on 9 April 2025. The restaurant publishes opening hours; it is closed on Saturday. No prices appeared on the page we read.
Chez Hanna, 54 rue des Rosiers (4th)
Falafel and shawarma in a kosher restaurant on the rue des Rosiers. The website gives 11.30 a.m. to midnight, but the page is undated and the Time Out entry is old (2011), so our confidence is moderate. Check the hours around Shabbat directly.
Shabbat, Sunday and the rhythm of the street
- From Friday late afternoon to Saturday evening, many kosher shops and restaurants on the street are closed. Fashion shops stay open on Saturday.
- On Sunday, shops reopen and the street has been pedestrian since 2006, as part of the city’s Paris Respire programme. The crowd is dense, particularly at lunchtime.
- On a weekday the street is quiet, cobbled and little used by cars, with a 30 km/h limit.

Our page on the rue des Rosiers covers the street itself, and the Jewish quarter guide the neighbourhood around it. For a sit-down meal, see our restaurants in Le Marais.
A short history of the street’s falafel
According to Wikipedia, L’As du Fallafel, at 34 rue des Rosiers, was founded in 1979 as a grocery that also sold falafel, and became a restaurant in 1997. It is kosher, closed on Shabbat, and queues form at lunchtime. That is the history behind the street’s association with falafel; it does not make the address better than the two we describe.
How the three addresses relate
We geocoded the addresses with the national address base. Miznon (22 rue des Écouffes) and L’As du Fallafel (34 rue des Rosiers) are 29 m apart in a straight line; L’As and Chez Hanna (54 rue des Rosiers) are 75 m apart; Miznon and Chez Hanna 88 m. All three are within a minute’s walk of one another, so the choice rests on opening days, not distance.
| Address | Open | Closed |
|---|---|---|
| Miznon Marais | Sunday to Thursday, 12 p.m. to 11 p.m.; Friday 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. | Saturday |
| Chez Hanna | 11.30 a.m. to midnight, according to its website; check around Shabbat | Not stated |
| L’As du Fallafel | Closed on Shabbat; no verified hours | Saturday |
Miznon is one of four Paris branches of the restaurant and, according to its website, takes no reservations. Chez Hanna’s website does not say whether it closes for Shabbat; as a kosher restaurant, it may. Confirm directly if you are going on a Friday evening or a Saturday.
What is nearby

Metro for the falafel street
The rue des Rosiers is close to the metro but not to every line. Two hotel pages in our base give the walk to the stations.
- Hôtel Dupond-Smith, 71 m from Chez Hanna, lists Saint-Paul (line 1) at 500 m, 7 min on foot; Hôtel de Ville (lines 1 and 11) at 550 m, 7 min on foot.
- Hôtel Caron de Beaumarchais, 169 m from Miznon, lists Pont Marie (line 7) at 400 m, 5 min on foot; Saint-Paul (line 1) at 400 m, 5 min on foot.
How Chez Hanna presents its service
The restaurant’s website lists falafel and shawarma, to eat in or take away. The dining room has windows that open on the street, and delivery goes through Deliveroo and Take it Easy. The site mentions a booking system, which sits oddly with the street’s habit of queueing, and says that it accepts meal vouchers, cash, Visa and Carte Bleue. It gives 11.30 a.m. to midnight from Monday to Sunday, with no Shabbat exception; as said above, treat that line with caution on a Friday evening or Saturday and ask by telephone.
Miznon, by contrast, publishes no booking at all: its site says it takes no reservations, and its hours have a Friday close at 4 p.m. The difference gives the choice of a table: a rue des Rosiers address that can be booked and delivered, or a rue des Écouffes counter that cannot.
Getting there and sleeping nearby
The middle of the rue des Rosiers is about 490 metres as the crow flies from the place des Vosges, roughly eight minutes on foot by our method. Measured from that point, the three nearest hotels in our base are the Hôtel Dupond-Smith (about 184 m as the crow flies), the Grand Hôtel Malher (200 m) and the Hôtel Caron de Beaumarchais (207 m).
