At the edge of the Bastille

Hôtel Bastille Spéria is at 1 rue de la Bastille, on the corner of the square, on the 4th arrondissement side; the hotel calls itself the closest to the place de la Bastille. It sits at the eastern end of rue Saint-Antoine, the street that leads west into the Marais. The hotel is independent.

Atout France, the national agency that classifies hotels, granted it three stars on 16 February 2022 for 42 rooms.

Six floors of rooms

The 42 rooms rise over six floors and look either onto the street or onto the courtyard. Their decoration keeps old beams and parquet and adds contemporary wood-panelled headboards; bathroom products come from Terre de Mars. All rooms are air-conditioned, and communicating rooms are offered to families.

Accessibility is partial and clearly stated: two rooms are adapted for guests with hearing impairments, but none is announced for wheelchair users. The day starts with a buffet in a breakfast room under a glass roof; there is no restaurant or bar.

From the Bastille to the place des Vosges

Bastille station, with lines 1, 5 and 8, is two minutes from the door; line 1 continues west through Saint-Paul and Hôtel de Ville. The Maison de Victor Hugo and the place des Vosges are three minutes away — see our place des Vosges guide — and the Hôtel de Sully four.

The Hôtel de la Herse d’Or, two minutes away on rue Saint-Antoine, is the closest three-star: smaller (29 rooms), renovated in 2023 and open to dogs and cats. The three-star Castex is three minutes away, the one-star Sully Hôtel four. At the other end of the scale, Le Pavillon de la Reine, a five-star on the place des Vosges, is five minutes away.
