Hotels Marais Paris

The house and the street

The hotel is at 22 rue Sainte-Croix-de-la-Bretonnerie, on the western stretch of the street between rue du Bourg-Tibourg and rue Vieille-du-Temple. We file it with Hôtel de Ville, though the rue des Rosiers is only about 290 metres away.

An operating company, SNC Hôtel de la Bretonnerie, runs it as a small independent group and links to two sister hotels, the Chopin and the Crayon, both outside the Marais. Atout France classified the hotel three stars on 12 August 2022 for 29 rooms, while the hotel’s own site says 30.

Rooms and services

The hotel presents itself as a former townhouse, though it gives no date and the heritage database has no entry for the address. Inside, the rooms are described with exposed beams, tented fabrics, canopy beds, attic ceilings, toile de Jouy and marble or terracotta bathrooms.

What sets it apart is the family room, which sleeps four on 25 to 38 square metres, next to a triple room. Small pets are accepted. Services stop at breakfast: no restaurant, bar, spa or gym are listed, air conditioning is not mentioned, and the hotel names two public car parks, Baudoyer and Lobau, rather than parking of its own. No accessible room is mentioned either.

Nearby

The Hôtel de Soubise, home to the Archives nationales museum, is about 180 metres away. The rue des Rosiers, covered in our guide, and the BHV department store, at BHV Marais, are both under 300 metres. Rambuteau and Hôtel de Ville take six minutes each on foot.

How it compares

The Hôtel du Vieux Marais is the nearest neighbour, about 85 metres off, with the same 29 rooms and the same three stars; it lists reversible air conditioning and a triple room, though no family room by that name. The four-star Hôtel Bourg Tibourg, 24 rooms, is some 145 metres away, and Hôtel Dupond-Smith offers just eight five-star rooms about 107 metres off. For a stay with children or a pet, the Bretonnerie’s family room and open policy on small animals decide the question.
