Hotels Marais Paris

Ten rooms without a lobby

The Hôtel du Haut Marais stands at no. 7 rue des Vertus, in the 3rd arrondissement. Despite its name, the street belongs to the Arts-et-Métiers administrative quarter rather than to the Upper Marais proper; Arts et Métiers station, on lines 3 and 11, is two minutes away.

It is run by Beauquartier, a Paris operator from the Locus group, which lists it among its Marais properties as Marais – Vertus. There are ten units, rooms and apartments, and the website dates a full renovation to 2016. The hotel is not classified by Atout France: it has no official stars, and we therefore give it no price band.

Apartments, self check-in and a sauna

The format is pared back on purpose. There is no lobby, no breakfast room, no bar and no restaurant; guests let themselves in through connected locks, and reception is staffed from 9.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. In return, the suites and the loft work as small apartments with a kitchen. The loft, 33 m², is on the top floor and looks over the rooftops, while the Family Suite joins a single room and a suite through a connecting door, with two bathrooms; another suite sleeps two adults and two children.

The listings for the single room and the suites mention air conditioning. A sauna can be reserved for private use, massages are offered on request, and each guest is lent a mobile phone with unlimited 4G data. The website states that the hotel is not accessible to disabled guests.

Rue des Vertus and its neighbours

The Musée des Arts et Métiers is four minutes away, the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature five, and both the Marché des Enfants-Rouges and the mahJ, the museum of Jewish art and history, six.

Categories vary widely within two minutes’ walk. The Hôtel So’Marais, at no. 14 on the same street, is a one-star with 11 rooms; the four-star Hôtel Jules & Jim, a minute away on rue des Gravilliers, has a cocktail bar on a paved courtyard and a gym; the five-star Experimental Marais is two minutes away. The nearest three-star, Austin’s Arts et Métiers Hôtel, three minutes away, lists accessible rooms, which the Haut Marais does not offer.
